Gas Connectors 101

March 28, 2023 | Plumbing Series

Commercial gas connectors are an essential component of all gas-powered equipment in the foodservice industry. These connectors are used to connect appliances to the gas supply line, ensuring the gas supply is secure, uninterrupted and the equipment is functioning properly.

The two most common types of commercial gas connectors are moveable and stationary. The main difference between the two is their designed mobility. While both connectors offer a flexible, coated stainless steel hose, the stationary hose is designed to be flexed for ease of installation.  Once installed; however, the stationary hose is designed to remain in place with limited movement. The commercial moveable connector is designed with repetitive movement and flexibility in mind and is typically used in conjunction with equipment on casters. This allows for frequent cleaning and maintenance of appliances without the need for disconnection. Both types of connectors play an important role in ensuring the protection and reliable operation of gas appliances, but their specific use depends on the requirements of that appliance.

A moveable gas connector kit typically includes several components that are necessary for a secure and effective connection of a gas appliance to a gas supply. The kit usually consists of a flexible gas connector, a manual shut-off ball valve, cast iron threaded elbows, a quick disconnect for safe and efficient disconnection, and a safety restraining cable which limits the stress that can be placed on a connector when it is being moved.  Stationary gas connector kits are similar but may not include the accessories designed for movement or quick disconnection.

One of the primary benefits of commercial gas connectors is that they provide enhanced safety to your commercial kitchen. These connectors are designed to withstand high temperatures and pressure, making them ideal for gas-powered appliances. They are also flexible and move with the equipment, reducing the risk of damage to the gas supply line.

Commercial gas connectors also improve the efficiency of your commercial kitchen. By ensuring a steady and uninterrupted gas supply, these appliances can operate at their maximum capability, which helps reduce energy costs and improves the overall productivity of the kitchen. This is especially important in a busy restaurant where every second counts.

Another benefit of commercial gas connectors is their ease of installation. These connectors are available in different lengths, diameters, and fittings, which makes it simple to find one that fits your appliance. Additionally, most connectors come with easy-to-follow installation instructions, making it straightforward for your staff to install them quickly and without any complications.

Commercial gas connectors are built to last. They are made of high-quality materials, such as stainless steel, which can resist the harsh conditions of a commercial kitchen. This means the gas connector won't have to be replaced frequently, which can save you money in the long run.

Finally, commercial gas connectors are essential for compliance with local and national safety regulations. These regulations require that gas equipment must be connected to the gas supply line using approved connectors that meet certain safety standards. By using commercial gas connectors, you can ensure that your kitchen is compliant with all relevant regulations and that you are providing a safe working environment for your staff.
